Science and the Early Childhood Curriculum

Children’s understanding and ways of learning is often influenced by daily experiences, information from books, parents, teachers and their peers who surround them.

As teachers, we need to know about everyday science and the ideas children hold to help us plan experiences. Many studies have been conducted which reveal that:

  • Children have their own view on scientific concepts
  • Those views influence the way in which they interpret their scientific experiences.

Science is at work everywhere, because all things are related in one way or another, we often see (especially in the cases with young children) that science spins off into art, literature, music, and other areas of the early childhood curriculum.
